Fundraising for Mount Auburn Hospital

The goal was to inform people that there are a number of ways to support Mount Auburn Hospital including through gifts of cash and stock, making bequests and participating in charitable annuities and charitable trusts. The creative strategy was to be personal, optimistic and immediate to make the program embraceable and ownable by the recipient. We decided that the message needed to be “human, “ not too financial or overwhelming.

The theme we developed was "Because I Can.” The theme was initially launched with the postcards, but then continued in a Ways of Giving brochure that will be on display at the hospital and mailed to a list maintained by the Hospital’s Development department. The first gift annuity postcard mailer was a great success. Approximately 8,000 pieces were mailed and the hospital received 8 inquiries in very short order. Of those 8 inquiries, the hospital closed four gift annuities within about 6 weeks with a total face value of $54,000.

This campaign received a Lamplighter award from the New England Society for Healthcare Communications or NESHCo, the region’s premier professional development organization.
